About us

The long journey to success

GAIEXPO and the International Africa Festival Tübingen is now organized and brought to you by Africa Worldwide Center (AWC) Neckar-alb. The AWC is the upgrade of our association “AfrikAktiv e.V” which was renamed in 2012 after “Cameroon cultural association” in order to represent the associations objectives and the broader public-orientation. In the beginning the association counted 17 members and contributors. Through its International Afrika Festivals Neckar-Alb region, a platform for exchange, contact and dialog between Africans and Germans, the association acted as an umbrella Diaspora initiatives, organizations and groups.

The goals of association and the festival for the past years (2007 – 2017) had been to promote a feeling of cometogether between Africans and Germans enhancing contact, friendship and togetherness. This goal has since been reached.

During the 15 years of operations, we carried out a research in 2014, results portrayed a high tendency of information and narrative deficite on the African continent.

The Federal Republic of Germany on its way to become a country for immigrants needs support from the different migrant communities in Germany to be able to facilitate suitable reforms based on trust in living together with foriegn cultures thereby preserving its origins.

It is in this context that in 2017 we created an umbrella name for our events known as “German African International Expo” (GAIEXPO) with aims and objectives to provide professional Information, contact and partnership solutions and to strengthen the socio – cultural economy and development cooperation between Africa and Germany under different themes each year.

The activities of GAIEXPO lay emphasis on the following areas

  • culture and cultural education
  • education-oriented social work
  • science and economy
  • with reference to the different countries and regions of the African continent

Africa worldwide center is therefore a competence center with services focused on sub-Sahara Africa – such as provide information, contacts, consulting and partnership to firms, Institutions, NGOs with focus in sub-Sahara Africa. AWC’s main project is the area of vocational trainings for young Africans on the continent in the sector of social entrepreneurship.

Our annual event GAIEXPO and International Afrika Festival Tübingen has as objectives to gather persons with the same focus and vision for economy and development cooperation between Africa and German, enhancing Networking, education and partnership between exhibitors as well as with the public.

Programms of this years GAIEXPO amongst others are exhibition, Business & Social Forums, Entertainment and more..

AWC is backed by GABS UG, a family start-up founded in Horb am Neckar in November 2017 and registered at the court in Stuttgart.

Despite operation as a firm, our main objectives remain the same as before. AWC initializes projects, acquires potential co-operation partners of different areas through networking and communication, locates potential sponsors for the projects and offers consulting for conceptual and professional questions about the African Diaspora in Baden-Württemberg. Thus the firm acts as a binding institution for contacts, information, dialog and the mutual exchange of information and experience through professional services

AWC is being led by a team of three, with more than 100 mini-jobers (90% Asylum seekers) in our region Neckar-alb. We recruit and provide hands on the job trainings at our BG Academy center in Germany.  To further our goals, we provide internship for students and school pupil.

If you are interested in a collaboration, we would ask you to approach us. In the following we can discuss precise project-possibilities which are most convenient for you.

History

  • 2007 - 2011

    1st Editions - Reutlingen / Metzingen / Tüttlingen

The first three years of our Vision, with seven founding members we started as non-profit association to create a quality platform for Africa in the southwest region of the federal republic of Germany. We had no idea how far we would go, we weren’t even sure that we would be able to survive for a few years. What drove us to impliment our vision was the drive to provide a service - original, that no one else was providing.

We embraced the warm open arms of wonderful loving people and Intellectuals of our beautiful University -Tübingen under its handsome young, energetic, visionary Lord Mayor (Boris Palmers). Every dream needs Angels - Tübingen is the golden city - Africa's angel
